ISLAMABAD, March : Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday ordered sacking of Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wasim Ahmed within three days.
The court also canceled the bails of all accused in Haj corruption case.
A six-member bench of apex court head by chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the Haj corruption case. During the hearing the chief justice said that Wasim Ahmed had botched up Haj scam probe. He said the government should appoint him somewhere else, if it considers the DG a competent officer.
Justice Raja Fayyaz stated that the Haj scam could not be justly investigated under the supervision of the current DG FIA.
The apex court also dismissed the FIA's report on the Haj corruption case.
Justice Fayyaz further said that the FIA was trying to protect suspects.The government's lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzada told the court that the prime minster had approved the report of the committee formed to deal with the issue of contract officers. The matter would be resolved in a month, Pirzada added.
The court ordered the FIA to submit its daily report of the Haj scam case in the chamber of Justice Raja Fayyaz.
The CJ ordered the FIA to act against Member National Assembly Imran Shah for leveling fake charges at Abdul Qadir Gilani. The chief justice expressed annoyance with ex-minister Azam Swati over failure to provide evidence to the court in Hajj corruption scam. The CJ remarked that the government was creating hurdles in court's work. The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.
