Int'l Kidney Day: People urged to carry out kidney tests to avoid > complications

PESHAWAR, March 10 : Medical experts at a function and walk arranged by the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD), Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar on the occasion of the International Kidney Day here on Thursday called upon the general public to carryout kidney tests at the IKD so that prior information could be obtained regarding any expected future kidney diseases.

Chief Executive of the HMC Dr. Aftab Akbar Durani was chief guest on the occasion while Director IKD Prof. Dr. Asif Malik, DMS (Admn) Dr. Muhammad Salim Khan, DMS (General) Dr. Riaz Tanoli, doctors, paramedics and nursing staff attended the function. The experts identified that kidneys were the most important organs of human body and when minor defects were ignored at the beginning those resulted in major ailments. They advised the people to come to the IKD where all sort of facilities, including experienced doctors, laboratories, equipments and other necessary tools were available.

The medical experts also stated that state of the art machinery had been installed at the IKD where treatment for common diseases as well as major surgery and transplantation work was being carried out with latest machinery. It was also identified that for removing kidney stones, the IKD had purchased latest machines with which stones were broken into pieces inside the kidneys and washed away from them without any hard process.Soon after the function a walk was arranged under the leadership of Dr. Akbar Durrani in which the participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with different advices as how to overcome kidneys ailments. They also gave the message to all and sundry in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be careful in the matter of their kidneys and avoid any negligence in this connection. They said everyone while reaching the age of 50 years should consult doctor for kidneys check up to keep themselves protected from surgery and transplantation. It was stated the IKD was the only institute in the KPK where only kidneys diseases were covered and urged the masses to avail the facilities of the government.

The International Kidney Day is observed on March 10 every year throughout the world. The main objective of the day is to make the people aware of the kidney diseases and to apprise them of the history of kidney problems. The issue is increasing day by day with the high growth in the population and it was the need of the hour that proper attention should be given towards protection of the kidneys.
