SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 28 : At least seven persons were killed and 16 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger van and an oil tanker.
According to police a Farooqabad bound passenger van coming from Sheikhupura collided head-on with oil tanker coming from opposite direction on Sargodha Road near Jhamkey area on Monday.
As a result of collision five people were killed on the spot and 18 others sustained injuries. The police and rescue personnel shifted the injured to District Hospital where two more succumbed to their wounds raising death toll to seven.
According to hospital sources several others among the injured were in critical condition and it was feared that death toll may rise further.
An injured passenger told media persons that the accident took place due to over speeding and reckless driving by the van driver.
The police took both vehicles in its custody, registered a case and started investigation.
