Chinese envoy meets President; discusses Premier's visit

ISLAMABAD, De 15: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Liu Jian Wenesday called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr and discussed matters relating to forthcoming visit of Chinese Premier Mr Wen Jiabao to Pakistan.

The Chinese Prime Minister is due to pay a three day official visit to Pakistan from 17th to 19th December and will hold talks with president Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

During the all important visit by the Chinese Prime Minister, leaders of the two countries exchange views on ways and means to further boost already cordial relations between the two countries, regional situation in the context of developments in Afghanistan, fight against terrorism and international situation.

Both the countries have identical views on all important regional and international issues and they cooperate with each other at international fora.

The Chinese Premier will address a joint session of Parliament on 19th and inaugurate the Pakistan-China Friendship Center. The Friendship Center is intended to facilitate exchanges among students, the media and academic circles.

The President would be hosting a dinner in honour of the Chinese prime Minister on 19th which will also be attended by leaders of all the major political parties. That is a proof that all the political leaders and people of Pakistan hold China and its people in the highest esteem.

Official sources told INP that the two governments would also launch a new energy cooperation mechanism during Wen's visit.

The Pakistani people saw China as a trusted partner, very good neighbor and close friend, they said..

"China has always helped Pakistan and done the right thing towards the Pakistani people. When Pakistan was hit by the earthquake in 2005, China helped massively. This time when there were floods, Chinese gave massive, timely and unconditional assistance," they said.

"From the corridors of government to the streets, people are so excited and keen to receive the Premier of China." To stay on the offensive against terrorism, Pakistan is seeking full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in which it was still an observer.

According to the 2005 Treaty of Friendship"China and Pakistan agreed to make joint efforts to defeat the evil forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism. That fits into the SCO philosophy."

The two nations cooperated actively and had held joint exercises in Ningxia focusing on combating terrorism. " Pakistan consider China's security as its own security" the sources emphasized.

Some important agreements are epected to be signed during the high level visit in the field of energy and other sectors. Later, the President hosted lunch for the Chinese Ambassador.
