80% of tribal areas cleared of militants: Lt. Gen. Asif Yaseen

PESHAWAR, Dec 06 : Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Asif Yaseen Malik has said that about 80 percent of the tribal areas have cleared of militants and army can consider the option of launching military operation in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) to clarify the remaining 20 percent tribal areas.

Talking to media persons here at provincial capital on Monday, Lieutenant General Asif Yaseen Malik said that Pakistan Army has completed its home work regarding Afghanistan issue after departure of US forces from that country in 2014.

The Corps Commander Peshawar, for the first time, disclosed that six military brigades have been deployed in North Waziristan Agency to cope with menace of extremism and terrorism.

Asif Yaseen Malik said that it was all due to sacrifices rendered by army personnel that about 80 percent tribal area has been cleared of militants and remaining 20 percent would be cleared soon.

He said that decision of launching military operation in NWA would be taken in accordance with situation and keeping in view the interests of the country and opinion of the local people and no external dictation would be accepted in this regard.

However, the Corps Commander said that necessary military action was being taken wherever it is needed.
