LHC stays amendment in blasphemy law

LAHORE, Dec 06 : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday stopped the government from making any amendment in the blasphemy law until further orders.

The petition filed by a local lawyer Muhammad Nisar stated that after the Aasia Bibi case, the government wanted to amend the blasphemy law under foreign pressure.

He quoted a statement of former information minister Sherry Rehman, who announced to table an amendment bill into the law.

On the inquiry of the court, Deputy Attorney General informed that there was no such bill being introduced.

On this, chief justice LHC Khawaja Muhammad Sharif ordered the government not to table any such bill until further orders.
