Two women among seven killed in snow related incidents

LOWER DIR, Feb 16 : At least seven persons including four of a same family were killed and two others sustained injuries in two separate accidents caused by heavy snowfall, sources said Tuesday.

According to details, a family of six was sleeping in their house, when suddenly its roof caved in owing to heavy snowfall in Rehimabad area in Lower Dir, killing four persons including two real brothers and their wifes and injured two others.

“The house was in dilapidated conditions, which caused the accident,” police sources said.

Police sources said two people have been rescued from the rubble of the house alive, while four others including two women died on the spot.

Locals said the incident occurred overnight, when the family was fast asleep. Locals immediately started rescue efforts and recovered two kids alive, while two real brothers and their wives died.

The injured were shifted to hospital where doctors declared them out of danger, hospital sources said.

In another incident, at least three persons were killed when an avalanche hit them near Lawari Tunnel in Chitral.

Police said two of the victims were residents of Chitral, while their third fellow belonged to Punjab.

Meanwhile, mercury has dropped as low as minus 10 degree Celsius in Chitral, forcing the residents to limit them to their homes.
