Six oil and gas discoveries made in last six months

ISLAMABAD, Jan 11 : The National Assembly was informed Monday that six oil and gas discoveries were been made during the last six months with aggregate oil production of 4716 barrels per day and 31 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Replying to a question in the house Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar said these discoveries are under appraisal and formal production has not yet begun. The discoveries were made in districts of Badind, Kohat, Gotki, Sanghar, Karak and Dera Ghazi Khan.

To another question, he said the Saindak Copper Project in Balochistan produced copper, gold, silver and iron worth over 111 million dollars during first ten months of the last year. He said efforts are being made to increase the blister copper production to twenty thousand tones annually.

To another question he said the Thar Coal Authority has given a number of blocks of Thar Coal deposits for exploration and power production. Some blocks have also been taken by the Planning Commission for gasification of coal.

The Minister told a questioner that expanded BPL (Bosicar Pakistan Limited) refinery would come on line within this year while ground breaking of Khalifa Coastal Refinery in Balochistan would also be performed this year.

Syed Naveed Qamar said there was pressure on gas supply due to increased demand in winter but the situation is expected to ease next month.

Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi told the house that 59 projects have been launched in the field of environment and allocations worth 1.141 billion rupees made for the purpose.INP
