NA to debate law and order situation in Karachi

ISLAMABAD, Jan 11 : The National Assembly Monday evening admitted for discussion identical adjournment motions moved by Ms Marvi Memon and Birjees Tahir on law and order situation with special reference to Ashura blast and the ensuing arson some markets in Karachi .

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan said the Government fully supports the motions and discussion on them. There was a debate in the house whether the issue should be debated today or in the presence of the Interior Minister, who is in Karachi .

Intervening in the process, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said the cabinet has collective responsibility and said points to be raised can be taken care of.

However, he said the Interior Minister was in Karachi for this very reason and he has with him necessary facts and figures about the unfortunate incident on the basis of input from the provincial government and law enforcing agencies. He proposed that the motion should be debate in the presence of the Interior Minister.

The Prime Minister condemned once again the bomb blasts and the violence and expressed sympathies with the business community which suffered losses worth billions of rupees. INP
