Lyari gangsters to be eliminated: Interior Minister

KARACHI, Jan 08 Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ruled out the involvement of any political party in Karachi incidents and vowed that gangsters indulging in incidents of firing and killings would be strongly dealt with.

Talking to media here Friday evening, he said there will be strong action against Lyari gangsters. He said he had directed IG Sindh and Director General Rangers to take strict and transparent action against those indulging in firing without taking into consideration their political other influence and affiliations.

Rehman Malik was confident that the situation would be stabilized by Saturday. He said the incidents of terrorism and violence in Karachi are part of a big conspiracy to destabilize the country and create a rift between the PPP and MQM. He said he has spoken to Altaf Hussain and other MQM leaders who too are concerned over the situation.

He said those who wan to de-stabilize the country after failing in Swat, Malakand and South Waziristan had now targeted Karachi and vowed that the Government will foil their designs.

The Interior Minister said there were 20 lac illegal foreigners in Karachi alone. He gave a strict warning to the illegal immigrants to get themselves registered or leave the country within 30 days.

He also asked people employed immigrants as their domestic servants to get their registration on priority basis. He said all SHOs have been directed to launch a survey of their respective areas and identify illegal immigrants and take action against them.

Replying to questions, Rehman Malik said the Government has got some valuable clues into Karachi blast and made it clear that no political party is involved in the 10th Muharram incident. He said terrorist organizations are behind this attack.

About the blast in Baldia town early on Friday, in which eight terrorists were killed and arms and ammunitions were covered from the rented house, the Interior Minister said they were from Swat. He said 25 grenades and 3 suicide jackets have been recovered from the site of the blast. He said he was given the information that the terrorists were planning to target him.

Regarding request by the UN Commission for extension in timeframe for inquiry into the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the Interior Minister said they sought more time because they got important information during the process of inquiry.

Rehman Malik said FIA was also working on the assassination of the PPP Chairperson and expressed the confidence to unmask the killers of the PPP leader. INP
