Generals, Judiciary should also be held accountable: Kaira

HAFIZABAD, : Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira Sunday said that Generals and Judiciary should also be held accountable if politicians are put through this process.

Addressing a ceremony held in connection with inauguration of Hafizabad Press Club here, Kaira questioned, “if politicians have been held accountable throughout since 1970, then why the Generals and judiciary are not held accountable”.

“The army and judiciary had been conspiring in the past,” he said.

Kaira said that Pervez Musharraf wanted to kill Nawaz Sharif and it was better for him to go on exile on friends’ request.

“Musharraf wanted to kill Nawaz Sharif, it was better that his foreign friends intervened and took him abroad”, he said.

He said that return of Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan, assumption of CJP slot by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was the result of Benazir Bhutto return to Pakistan and her talks with a dictator.

He said that clash always remains between true democrats and dictators. Qamar Zaman said that PPP never came to government with the help of any third power. He said dictatorship weakened the federation and Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the safety of federation.

“We came into power after a lot of sacrifices, Benazir Bhutto gave her life for Pakistan and for democracy, she returned to Pakistan despite knowing the fact that her life was in danger”, he said.

“Benazir Bhutto united democratic forces in the country and promoted politics of reconciliation”, he maintained.

Kaira said that a section of press is hatching conspiracies against the government and the PPP is being put on media trial.

The Information Minister said presently the army is fighting against the scourge of terrorism with patience and valour. However, he said, smashing the Taliban mindset is not an easy task.

He said that the PPP did not want any confrontation among the institutions.

He also lashed out at PML-Q and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan for supporting dictators in the past.

The Information Minister termed terrorism as big threat to country.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said when the government tried to bring an end to load-shedding through rental power plants, an uproar was created in the country, pushing the country behind by six months. “Now no one is ready to come up with immediate investment.”

The government is in the process of building Bhasha Dam for which the Musharraf led regime did not purchase even a single inch of land. INP
