Punjab to give 45% of its water share to other provinces

LAHORE: Punjab has decided to give 45% of its share of water to other provinces, said the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Friday.

A meeting of IRSA’s members was held here, led by Chairman Rao Irshad. The meeting discussed issues pertaining to water management and provinces’ needs.

During the meeting, Punjab decided to cut its water share by half. The total water share of Punjab is 33,000 cusecs which will become 18,000 cusecs after giving half to other provinces.

The meeting was informed that approximately 50,000 cusecs of water would be given to Sindh from Mangla Dam due to its need to cultivate wheat.
