KESC seeks 53 paisa per unit raise in power tariff

KARACHI, April 09 : Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Saturday requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise power tariff by 53 paisa per unit for domestic consumers.

At the moment, hours-long power outages continue in Karachi on the pretext of production shortage and repair of power plants.

In a summary sent to NEPRA, KESC requested raise in power tariff by 53 paisa a unit, on the ground that the company had to overspend on power production during February, 2011.

The anticipated raise in power tariff would also be made on the basis of fuel adjustment charges following hike in POL prices in March.

NEPRA has not yet given approval to increase electricity tariff by KESC.
