HEC should keep operating till new law

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Higher Education Commission (HEC) to keep operating until the amendment in the law.

The court was hearing petitions against dissolution of the HEC.

The Attorney General, Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq told the court that the commission still existed and not dissolved so far. He said a new law being prepared for HEC with consultation from educational experts and vice chancellors .

A three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard petitions against devolution of the HEC including a petition by Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, former head of the higher education body, and two petitions filed by two private universities.
