US Senator Kerry's report unveiled Indian water terrorism: Zahoorul Hassan

LAHORE, March 05 : Chairman Indus Basin Water Council (IBWC) and Chief Coordinator of World Water Assembly Hafiz Zahoorul Hassan Dahar said on Saturday that the US Senate report unveiled the Indian policy of water terrorism.

Addressing a press conference here, Hafiz Zahoorul Hassan said the water dispute is causing severe rivalry between Pakistan and India. He said US Senator John Kerry in his report to the US Senate has unveiled the Indian aggressive policy towards Pakistan.

He said Senator Kerry clearly mentioned in his report that construction of dams on rivers flowing towards Pakistan will badly affect Pakistan.

He said water is very crucial for the agriculture and energy needs of Pakistan, but the US has not stopped India from construction of illegal dams on rivers flowing towards Pakistan, despite the fact that this act of India is against the Indus Basin Treaty and International Law.

Hafiz Zahoorul Hassan said India was constructing mega dams and barrages, besides linking channels of Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh rivers leading from Occupied Kashmir with their own rivers under the strict surveillance of the Indian army. He said if the trend continued, the situation will went out of control in two years and the coming generations will have no water to
survive.

He said through this five-year plan, India will completely deprive Pakistan from its water till 2016. "India will also be able to throw a water bomb on Pakistan any time by opening the automatic gates of these illegally constructed dams, which will create widespread destruction," he added.

He warned that if the government didn't act promptly, then Pakistan will soon face Somalia and Ethopia like situation.
