No request from Bahrain for military assistance: FO

ISLAMABAD, March 17 : Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said on Thursday that the Bahrain government had neither requested for military assistance nor was the situation in Bahrain like Libya that would require immediate evacuations of Pakistanis in the country.

Replying to a query Ms Janjua said that there were 65000 Pakistanis, 300,000 Indians and 100,000 Bangladeshis living in Bahrain. Janjua rejected the news that four Pakistanis had died in Bahrain and confirmed that only one Pakistani had been killed.

"Pakistan has requested the Bahrain government to ensure protection of Pakistani citizens living in Bahrain," she added.

She also said that the government was in constant touch with Bharain and was monitoring the situation in the country.

"Relations between Pakistan and Bahrain are based on strong foundations and we hope the public and the government will bring a peaceful solution to the problem," she said.
