MQM meeting with President Zardari ends

ISLAMABAD: Meeting of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) with President Asif Ali Zardari at Presidency late Tuesday night to mull over the situation created by statement of Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza, came to an end.

The meeting discussed the reservations put up by Muttahida leaders.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also attended the meeting. Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik also arrived a little later in the meeting to make the meeting a success.

President Zardari also phoned MQM chief Altaf Hussain and assured him of resolving the issues. After the meeting, Muttahida leaders thanked Zardari for holding a meeting.

According to a statement issued on this occasion, President Zardari said a meeting of Sindh governor, chief minister and other provincial ministers, would be called again within a week to resolve the issues.

The statement said MQM’s reservations and problems would be contemplated upon. President Zardari said criminal elements would be strictly dealt with, adding each and every citizen of Karachi would be given protection.

President said political forces should have vigilant eye on the elements desirous of creating controversies.

The meeting lasted for at least three hours. During the course of the meeting, President Zardari talked to MQM chief Altaf Hussain on phone.

According to sources, development was achieved on some matters during the telephonic conversation between the two leaders.
