Militants blow up two power pylons near Macch, power supply to 15 districts > suspended

QUETTA, March 19 : Electricity supply to 15 districts of Balochistan was suspended after militants blew up two electricity pylons in Aab-e-Gum area on Friday night.

According to police towers of two transmission lines with 132 KV and 220 capacity supplying electricity from Guddu to Quetta were blown up with explosives in Aab-e-Gum area near Macch.

The towers were destroyed completely resultantly halting supply to 42 grid stations of the province.

Thousands of people in the affected districts had to suffer due to suspension of power supply. The suspension of power supply has not only badly affected the routine life but also official activities and communication links.

Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) sources said that repair work on the two transmission towers has been initiated but no exact time for restoration of power supply could be given as QESCO lacks sources and manpower to complete the task in time.

It should be mentioned that repair of electric pylons and transmission lines destroyed by militants during past few weeks was also underway and QESCO had to face difficulties as its manpower was spread at various places within the province.
