Karachi: Six more killed in Karachi; One week death toll reaches 57

KARACHI, March 16 : At least six persons including a woman were killed in separate violent incidents in different areas of the metropolis on Wednesday raising the death toll in a week to 57.

According to police sources, unidentified armed assailants on early Wednesday morning shot dead two persons at Napier road area in the jurisdiction of Eidgah Police Station.

The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital for medico legal requirements. Identity of the deceased was yet to be confirmed. The firing incident spawned tension in the area.

In Mauripur area, unidentified armed men gunned down Rafique 24, in on Wednesday morning near trucks stand.

Bullet riddled bodies of two persons were recovered from Nishtar Road area of Old City. The bodies were shifted to hospital for post-mortem.

Aerial firing continued in Lyari and other areas creating panic and scare among the residents.

In other incidents, a couple sustained critical wounds after a speedy truck hit their motorcycle in Ayesha Manzil Chourangi, at Pakistan Avenue. The injured were shifted to hospital where the woman succumbed to her wounds. The angry people set the truck on fire after the accident. However the driver managed to flee from the scene.

Meanwhile, the citizens have expressed their dissatisfaction over the law enforcement forces performance as they have failed to nab any culprit of the incidents of target killing which claimed more than 57 innocent lives in a week besides leaving scores of others injured.

They expressed their resentment that despite presence of police and rangers criminals were having a free hand and after targeting people, they escape before the arrival of the police and rangers.

It should be mentioned that target killing also gave rise to lawlessness and violent protests which badly affected the business activities and dozens of vehicles have been torched by enraged protestors causing millions of rupees loss
