Journalists protest in Punjab Assembly over firing on a colleague

LAHORE, March 15 : Former Senior Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz has said that Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif due to his poor government was avoiding to face the public and members of Provincial Assembly to reply to their queries. Media was being targeted for exposing the misdeeds of PML-N led provincial government.

He said that while talking to media persons outside PA here on Tuesday. The Opposition Leader attended the protest demonstration of the media persons against opening of fire on cameraman of a private TV channel outside the Assembly building.

He said it is responsibility of the Chief Minister to attend the Assembly session to respond to questions and queries by the Membes but Shahbaz Sharif was deliberately avoiding it though he was leader of the House and his foremost responsibility as to attend the proceedings.

"If Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani can attend all the session of the National Assembly despite tight schedule and officials engagements then why Shahbaz Sharif can't", he questioned?

He said that turncoats were now hiding their faces and have no courage to face the people and fellow members due to their shameful decision.

Earlier hundreds of media persons wearing black bands at their arms held protest demonstration against firing on one of their colleague in front of PA building. They demanded the authorities to arrest the accused at once. They also boycotted the proceedings of the Assembly.

The media men termed the firing on cameraman as an attempt to suppress the voice of free media and vowed to continue protest till the culprits were nabbed.
