Doctors protest for raise in salaries

LAHORE/MULTAN, March 01 : Doctors in all government hospitals in Lahore and Multan on Tuesday went on strike after their negotiations with the Punjab Health secretary failed.

The doctors of Punjab from various cities including Lahore, Multan,Faisalabad and Gujranwala blocked roads and chanted slogans for raise in their salaries.

They said due to high inflation they need increased salaries to meet the expenses of their livelihood.

Operation theaters and outdoor sections of all government hospitals were closed due to which patients faced severe difficulties. The strike was called by the Young Doctors Association and Pakistan Medical Association.

The doctors said that they called the strike after their talks with the Punjab Health secretary did not yield any positive result.

They said that only emergency wards would continue to operate during the strike and the government would be responsible for the troubles of patients.

The protesting doctors said they would continue their protest till acceptance of their demand. Due to blockage of the roads by the protesting doctors the traffic remained jammed causing several difficulties for commuters.
