LAHORE: Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa on Monday signed a summery to de-notify seven Pakistan Peoples Party ministers from coalition cabinet of the province,.
The ruling PPP and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) are at odds over the later’s move to oust its rival from Punjab, a stronghold of PML-N’s politics.
Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had sent the summary to the governor for dissolution of Punjab cabinet. The decision about cabinet dissolution was held in a meeting at Model Town with Shahbaz Sharif in chair.
Provincial Minister of Law Rana Sanaullah had personally taken the summary to Governor House which the governor is constitutionally bound to approve within 14 days, sources said.
They said PML-N has also initiated consultations for formation of the new provincial cabinet, sources said, adding that the portfolios would be finalized after consultation with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier today, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned Governor Punjab Latif Khosa and Interior Minister Rehman Malik in Karachi to discuss with them the PML-N’s move to throw out PPP minister from the cabinet.
Zardari has vowed that his party would continue its democratic role in Punjab and wouldn't allow any harm to the democratic dispensation.
Talking to the party bigwigs President said the PPP did not believe in turncoatism.
Zardari advised the party leaders to act in a democratic way over the situation in Punjab and avoid any reaction.
He has reiterated that PPP would play opposition’s role in Punjab under the reconciliation policy. “Our doors are not closed for any party. The reconciliation policy will be continued at all cost pursuing the vision of Benazir Bhutto,” the PPP co-chairman affirmed.
