KHUZDAR, Jan 04 : Transporters and travelers Tuesday blocked Khuzdar-Karachi Highway to protest against the rising incidents of robbery and plundering especially in passenger vans and buses in the area by armed desperadoes.
Sources said that a passenger bus was on its way to Karachi from Khuzdar on Tuesday when armed men tried to stop it by opening indiscriminate fire.
“Driver of the passenger bus managed to escape by accelerating the bus speed” witnesses told to a private TV channel.
After the incident, the armed men left the highway fearing a raid by the police as bullet shots hit the passenger bus and damaged it partially. However, no loss of life or injury to any one in the incident was occurred.
Sources said that passengers and transporters of other different bus companies that ferry the passengers to Karachi and other travelers later on blocked the Khuzdar-Karachi Highway to condemn the ever increasing incidents of robberies.
The Highway remained blocked for eight long hours but none from the official concerned turned up to open it and pacify the passengers and transporters.
Sources said long queues of buses and other vehicles were seen at the blocked Highway and passengers were facing difficulty. The transporters and passengers were demanding the government to provide them safety while traveling from Khuzdar to Karachi.
