US Consul General in Peshawar suddenly leaves for Washington after receiving life threats

PESHAWAR, Dec.10 : US Consul General in Peshawar Elizabeth Rood has suddenly left Pakistan

A Private TV channel said the US embassy has refused to give reasons for her departure. However Peshawar Consulate sources and Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that she has get herself transferred to Washington for personal reasons and take up her new responsibilities in the State Department.

Elizabeth Rood made a farewell call on the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti two days back. Before leaving Peshawar she also met some government officials as well including Chief Secretary FATA Maulvi Habibullah Khan but details of those meetings were kept secret.

She had good command in Pushto language and had been meeting politicians and officials in the Province very frequently.

Some observers said that she was frequently receiving life threats from Taliban. She had taken over the charge of Consul General some two months back after which she received threats.

According to reports Elizabeth arrived in Islamabad on Thursday and left for home on Friday.
for Washington.
