Rs 50m wheat spoiled

GHOTKI, Dec 28 : Wheat worth Rs 50 million was spoiled due to non careful attitude of the provincial government authorities in district Ghotki of Sindh.

According to details 22000 wheat sacks stored in a godown near Dehrki Railway Station, of Ghotki district was blotted due to humidity and vermin turned the wheat into powder.

Despite repeated reports by print and electronic media food department and concerned district administration paid no heed to preserve the precious wheat stock causing huge loss to national exchequer.

Reports said that wheat worth Rs 50 million was turned into heap of soil due to hasty attitude of authorities concerned.

Media persons when approached food inspector Shahnawaz Samair to inquire about the issue, refused to comment.

Watchman and clerk present at the wheat depot told the media persons that earlier there were suggestions of distributing the said wheat stock among the poor people during holy month of Ramadan but later due to unknown reasons the project was delayed.

They said that no arrangements were made to preserve the stock and humidity, direct sunlight and vermin turned the precious wheat stock into heap of dirt.

According to Muhammad Hashim, the district head clerk food department Ghotki, concerned food inspector is responsible for the slapdash and the loss would be recovered by auctioning his property.
