Rabbani summons Parliament's NSC meeting

ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: The Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Mian Raza Rabbani has decided to summon a key meeting of the Committee within next few days to ponder over the security situation in the country and the US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter's statement regarding military operation in North Waziristan.

Credible sources privy to details told INP on Tuesday that Chairman of the Committee and PPP seasoned parliamentarian Mian Raza Rabbani will chair a key meeting of the Committee within next few days. He has also contacted Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on telephone calling on him to brief the Committee on national security.

Sources added that Mian Raza Rabbani refused to have briefing by the Foreign Secretary on nation security in the Committee's upcoming meeting and urged the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to take the members of the National Security Committee into confidence.

The situation surfaced after statement of the US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter calling upon army to launch military operation in North Waziristan and its fallout would also be taken up in the meeting, sources maintained.
