Karachi : One killed, 30 held as citizen protest police harassment

KARACHI, Dec 08 : One person was killed, two injured and 30 others were arrested during a scuffle between Rangers and residents of Kanwari Colony during a search operation.

Rangers launched a search operation in Manghopir area in connection with escalated security arrangements for Muharram ul Haram.

Hundreds of people of Kanwari Colony, Manghopir were took to streets to lodge protest against the arrests during search operations in the name of terrorists, causing panic and harassing the residents.

Protesters blocked Manghopir Road and called for the immediate release of detainees.

Heavy contingents of police and rangers were called in to bring the situation under control.

The enraged protestors scuffled with security officials who tried to stop them of holding protest demo. Verbal clash turned violent after which rangers fired tear gas and opened fire at the unruly protestors.

As a result of firing one person was killed and two others sustained injuries. Police also have arrested 24 people including former UC Councillor.

It should be mentioned that Sindh Rangers and city police during search operation against terrorists in Manghopir on Tuesday arrested more than 400 people including six women.
