7 students perished, over 20 injured as school van plunges into gorge

BATTAGRAM, Dec 20 : At least seven school-going children were died and more than 20 others sustained injuries when a school van plunged into deep ravine at Kanai area on Monday, sources said.

According to details, a school van carrying students, aging from seven to eleven years, from school to home slipped into deep gorge, killing seven children on the spot and leaving more than 20 others injured.

"The school-van was going from Thakot to Allai and in the way suddenly its tai-rod got broken due to which driver lost control over the van and van went down to deep ravine," local sources said.

Local sources said that rescue workers and locals rushed to rescue the children and after hectic efforts of many hours, the dead bodies of seven children recovered from the wreckage of the van and shifted the students to nearby hospitals.

Around sixteen injured students were rushed to Ayub Medical College and eleven others were shifted to Thakot Hospital for medical treatment.

According to hospital sources, the injured students were stated to be out of danger. District and police officials also reached the spot to investigate the incident.
