Flood water enters Zamzama Gas Filed; several power plants shutdown

SLAMABAD, Sep 07 : The power shortfall has swollen by another 1,000 MW after floodwater entered Sind's Zamzama Gas field forcing to stop several power plants, PEPCO sources said on Tuesday.

According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) sources, several power plants including Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO), Fauji Power, Orient, and others have been closed.

Closure of power plants will cause approximately shortfall of 4,000 megawatts in electricity production which ultimately lead to interruption of12 hour electric supply in urban areas and it may rise to 14 hours in rural areas.

On the other hand Qadir Pur Gas field will remain close from September 11 till 19 on account of annual services and repairing purposes due to that CNG stations will remain shut for three days a week and five days off in industrial units.
