220 thousand worshipers attend the Friday prayers at the Aqsa Mosque

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage (AFEH) has estimated the number of worshipers who attended the Friday prayers at the Aqsa Mosque on the last Friday of Ramadan to be 220 thousand despite all the hurdles created by the occupation.

AFEH said, in a statement today, that worshipers reached Jerusalem from 1948-occupied Palestine and from the West Bank despite Israeli occupation measures to limit the number of worshipers reaching the mosque such as putting a minimum age for worshipers from the West Bank.

AFEH said that this estimate was made after consultations between its representatives who were present from the early morning in and around the Aqsa Mosque with photographers and journalists who covered the prayers.

AFEH said that the attendance today has visibly exceeded the previous three Fridays of Ramadan as the mosque was filling up since the morning hours and the numbers swelled towards the start of the Friday prayers, adding that during the prayers worshipers filled up the buildings, tree-sheltered and sheltered yards as well as open spaces.

There was a heavy occupation military presence in and around Jerusalem, particularly around the Aqsa Mosqu with a surveillance balloon and helicopter above the Aqsa Mosque.
