22 members of rival groups killed in pitched battle over land dispute

SHIKARPUR, July 09 : At least 22 persons belonging to two rival groups were killed and several others received injuries when the two sides opened fire at each other in over a piece of irrigated land here at Kairtar area of Ghari Yaseen on Friday, police sources said.
According to details, a pitched battle took place between two rival armed groups of Qambrani Tribe and Magsi Tribe at Kaitar area where both the groups traded fire.
“Seven members of one family of Magsi tribe were killed in the armed battle,” local sources said.
The spell of fire continued intermittently which started overnight wherein at least 12 members of Magsi tribe were killed while ten members of Qambrani tribe lost their lives.
“Police officials were reluctant to go to the spot,” local sources said and exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing.
DPO Shikarpur Faiz Ahmad Korejo said that contingents of rangers were sent to the area while DIG Larkana Sanaullah Abbasi said that extra contingents of police were also called in from Jacoabad and Larkana beside Shikarpur to bring the situation under control.
“The rivalry between the two groups is over a piece of irrigated land, police officials said.
