SC orders shifting of illegal tankers parking from residential area

KARACHI, May 21 : Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has ordered removal of all oil tankers from Shirin Jinnah Colony.

The Chief Justice during hearing of the case at the apex court Karachi Registry on Friday ordered that the oil tankers should be parked at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) plot till government prepares parking place at Zulfiqar Abad.

In his remarks, the Chief Justice said that providing facilities is responsibility of the city government which is receiving taxes. The court said it will check the matter after two months

He said that KPT should work with oil tankers’ owners for providing them with parking facility.

Chief Justice ordered KPT to provide 5 million square meter land for parking of oil tankers and solve the issue of parking fees with the consultation of oil tankers' owners.

The residents of Shirin Jinnah Colony, oil tankers owners and KPT officials were also present during the hearing of the case.
