Five blasts rock Lahore; no deaths reported

LAHORE: At least five consecutive blasts rocked the metropolis on Friday. Deaths are feared following the explosions.

The series of blasts took place in the area of Tabi near a police station.

There are no immediate reports of deaths and injuries as police said the blasts were of low intensity.

Rescue teams thronged to the spot and initiated relief operations. Police and security personnel also responded soon after the blast.

Nearby houses and shops were partly damaged in the blasts that occurred in densely populated area near Badshahi Mosque.

A shadowy outfit, Difa-e-Nazriya-e-Pakistan (protection of ideology of Pakistan) claimed responsibility of the blasts few minutes prior to the explosions via SMS.

Eyewitnesses said some bikers were placing the explosive material on roads.

Superintendent City Police said the bombs were locally made.
