One police man killed, four including 2 civilians injured in Srinagar shootout

SRINAGAR, March 16: One personnel of the Indian troops was killed and another injured whereas five civilians also sustained injuries when firing broke out in Lal Chowk here on Tuesday.
According to details fired a volley of shots on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel patrolling the Koker Bazar area of Lal Chowk, a busy and congested area of Srinagar City Center around 11.20 AM, injuring five people including two security personnel.
The CRPF Spokesman Prabakar Tripathi said the unknown assailants then fled from the spot.
Later, one police office of the occupant force succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The incident occurred at about 11:20 AM in the busy market area when unknown people managed to approach some CRPF personnel on guard duty undetected. After opening fire, they managed escaped into the congested streets of the Koker Bazaar locality.
Panic gripped the area after the firing started at Lal Chowk, the heart of the city. Following the incident, the area was then evacuated of all civilians and then completely cordoned off by Indian troops and police personnel.
