LAHORE, March 15 : Police in a major action foiled a terror bid and seized 1500 kg explosive material packed in 60 big sacks during raid on a shop in Mehran block near Sabzi Mandi in Allama Iqbal town here on Monday.
According to CCPO Lahore Pervez Rathore, the recovered explosive included 18 hand grenades, 2 suicide jackets, and thousands of bullet rounds which could be used for 40 suicide attacks.
According to police, Rescue 15 received a call saying that suspected big sacks were laying in a shop in Mehran Block near Sabzi Mandi. On the information, police raided the shop and recovered 60 sacks filled with explosive material, police added.
CCPO Lahore said that the shop belonged to Akmal, who had given it to Omer on rent. He said that it seems that same terrorist groups were involved in dumping the explosive material which conducted terrorist attacks in Iqbal Town few days back.
Police have cordoned off the entire area after recovering the explosive material and raids were also conducted in different adjacent localities of Iqbal Town including Wahdat Colony, Thokar Niaz Beg and Muslim Town.
