Cantonment in Swat soon: Corps Commander

MINGORA, Mar 11: Corps commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Masood Aslam Thursday said military will stay in Swat to maintain peace and a cantonment will be established here soon.

Briefing newsmen during his two day visit to Swat on Thursday, the Corps Commander said the terrorists arrested during Swat operation would be produced in the anti-terrorism court soon.

“The operation in Swat is complete and terrorists have been killed or flushed out of the valley, but the military will stay here until peace and order is completely restored,” he said.

The Corps Commander said a durable and lasting peace in Swat needs continued cooperation from the public.

Lt Gen Masood Alam said that Maulana Fazlullah, chief of Swat Taliban has fled from Swat during the operation, while the security and intelligence agencies are looking for him.

Lt Gen Masood Alam was also briefed by the officials about the progress on the operation underway in Swat.

Lt Gen Masood Alam said a cantonment would be established in Swat soon in order to facilitate the forces in the area.

Lt Gen Masood Aslam further added that to make the operation successful in the terror-torn area the cooperation of locals is necessary to support the forces involved in the operation against the terrorists in Swat.
