Sindh Assembly unanimously adopts LG amendment Bill 2010

KARACHI, Feb 15 : The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved Local Government Amendment Bill 2010 on Monday.

The Local Government Amendment Bill 2010 will be sent to Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad for the final approval, after which it would become a law.

The administrators would take the place of the Nazims. The Nazims would be ineffective the sign of the Governor Sindh on the bill and could not use their offices and power anymore.

Government officers will be appointed administrators, replacing the nazims, till the next elections. The administrators would be the government servants of Grade 17, Grade 18 and Grade 19.

Administers have also been bound to law to transfer the power to elected Nazims after LG elections.

As prescribed in the bill, the current local government system will be dissolved. The next local bodies elections will be conducted on party basis. However, a person will also be allowed to contest the elections as an independent candidate.

After the present local body system is dissolved, the Election Commission of Pakistan will be asked to hold elections within 120 days.
