One Palestinian wounded, dozens suffocate in Al-Khalil clashes

Al-KHALIL, (PIC)-- One Palestinian was wounded and many others suffered tear gas suffocation during clashes that broke out in Al-Khalil city against the backdrop of an Israeli decision to make the Ibrahimi Mosque part of the Jewish legacy.

Medical sources told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that a Palestinian young man sustained slight injuries that resulted from firing rubber-coated metal bullets in the confrontations that erupted in different areas of Al-Khalil.

They added that dozens of people also suffered from suffocation and were provided with field medical treatment.

The clashes, which started since the early morning hours, were concentrated in Sahla area, the two streets of Shalala and the neighborhood of Abu Sneineh.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked the protesters, blocked the entrances to the old city and prevented Palestinians from reaching the vicinity of the Ibrahimi Mosque.

Al-Khalil city also witnessed a general strike in protest at Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to annex Al-Ibrahimi and Bilal Mosques to the list of the Jewish historical sites.

Eyewitnesses said that the protesters burned tires and threw stones at the IOF troops

For his part, chief justice of Palestine Tayseer Al-Tamimi deplored the Israeli decision to include Islamic holy shrines on the list of alleged Jewish religious sites.

Tamimi warned that the decision is a declaration of war on Islamic holy sites in Palestine and will lead to the outbreak of war in the region.

In the same context, Mahmoud Abbas’s militias attacked Palestinian young men and prevented them from throwing stones at IOF troops in protest at the Israeli decision to seize two mosques in Al-Khalil and Bethlehem.

Eyewitnesses told the PIC that dozens of Abbas’s militias physically assaulted Palestinian protesters and barred them from reaching Israeli military checkpoints in different areas of Al-Khalil.

The protesters, for their part, threw stones at Abbas’s militias and their vehicles without any reported injuries.

Meanwhile, Hamas condemned the Israeli step, in a statement on Monday, saying that such a step aims to bolster the occupation and constitutes naked theft of Arab and Muslim heritage.

It added that the decision reveals Israel’s lies about its willingness for peace and confirms that it only understands the language of resistance.

Sawasya center for human rights also deplored the Israeli decision against Islamic holy shrines and said that this Israeli policy is aimed to make fundamental changes in Al-Khalil city and obliterate its Islamic identity as a prelude to expelling its entire Palestinian people and preventing them from entering it.
