ISLAMABAD, Jan 01: Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has termed the 18% increase in gas tariff as unjustified and has summoned PAC meeting on January 06.
Talking to newsmen at his chamber here on Friday, Chaudhry Nisar said that increase in gas tariff is nasty step of government which would further mount the hardships of countrymen who were already in the grip of multifaceted crises.
He said that gas tariffs were increased a year back and now Pakistan People Party (PPP) government has again allowed gas companies to increase gas tariffs by 18%.
The chairman PAC blamed that gas companies put all the burden of the gas theft and cross subsidy on masses and adjust them in gas consumer’s bills.
So called democratic government has no concern with masses suffering and it was adding to the people hardships by gas load shedding and increase and tarrif, Chaudhry Nisar said adding that soon masses would be unable to have access to natural gas.
He said that the government has increases gas tariff by 18% and on other hand petroleum prices were reduced by only 2% which have negative aspect rather any relief to masses.
The chairman PAC said that the committee would table adjournment motion in the next assembly session regarding the recent increase in gas tariff.
He said that Secretary Petroleum and Chairman OGRA have been invited in PAC meeting scheduled on Jan 06 to brief the committee on increase in gas tariffs.
Chaudhry Nisar blamed that gas companies were busy in deceiving the consumers and recent gas bills were sent to consumers in accordance with fake meter readings.INP
