Govt following policy of political reconciliation: Zardari

LAHORE, Jan 14 : President Asif Ali Zardari has said he was following the policy of political reconciliation, strengthening of institutions and democracy in line with the thinking of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Addressing a big gathering of PPP leaders and workers at Governor House here Thursday, the President the two Shaheed leaders sacrificed their lives for their loyalty and survival of Pakistan.

Zardari, who addressed the audience in Punjabi, said the projects being inaugurated by him now were in fulfilment of the dreams of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He said Benazir Bhutto wanted to empower the people of Pakistan and the PPP Government is working towards that end.

The President said the country is facing multi faceted challenges today including power and gas load shedding and water shortage which were the creation of the previous governments who did not pay any attention to future requirements.

He assured that these would be overcome through hard work, sincerity and loyalty to the country. He said he is aware of the problems of the PPP workers which are not being attended to.

He said the PPP workers are not getting jobs but assured to visit Punjab for one week every month, hold open Darbars and all the decisions would be taken with the consent of the workers.

He said had visited China and the United States and will be going to Turkey only to resolve the problems of the Pakistani people. He said he has secured a loan of $700 million for construction of 32 dams in the country. Six of these dams would be constructed in Punjab.

The President announced that the land to be irrigated by these small dams in Punjab would be allotted to poor women of the respective areas to empower them. He said lthe future problem of the country will be water and he was doing his best to build water reservoirs to save the future of coming generations. He said the PPP government has also given 12.5 percent shares of the public sector industries to the poor workers who would now work hard to make them profitable.

Zardari said that he has been listening the voices of the masses from across the country while in the Presidency. He said the people want him to save Pakistan by fighting the militancy in FATA and Swat. He said he is aware of the problems of the poor masses, labourers and haris including power and gas loadshedding. INP
