Fehmida Mirza terms cottage industry backbone of country’s economy

ISLAMABAD, Jan 02 : The Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza said Saturday that cottage industry was of utmost importance for alleviation of poverty and eradication of unemployment from the country and appropriate steps were being taken for its development.

She said this while inaugurating the exhibition held jointly by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in collaboration with National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS) at Heritage Museum , Loc Virsa, Islamabad today.

The exhibition was held to promote art and crafts of the IDPs from Swat, Malakand and Mansehra.
The Speaker National Assembly said that terrorism had affected the entire country but the people of Swat and Malakand suffered the most. She said that entire nation salutes the courage and patience of the people of Swat and Malakand who gave exemplary sacrifices in war against terrorism.

She said that the government was committed to develop the area and restore all civic amenities with utmost speed. She appreciated the initiatives of NCHD and NICS for promoting the art and crafts of the IDPs, and added that the step would generate income and help providing more employment opportunities for the people of Swat and Malakand.

The Chairperson of National Commission of Human Development (NCHD), Ms. Nafisa Shah, Chief Executive of National Institute of Cultural Studies (NICS), Mrs. Robina Rauf Khalid, MNAs Ms. Donya Aziz, Ms. Robina Sadat Qaim Khani and Ms. Shireen Arshad Khan also addressed on the occasion. INP
