COAS leaves for Brussels to attend Chiefs of Defence meeting

RAWALPINDI, Jan 26 : The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Tuesday proceeded to Brussels for a 2-day visit from 26 to 27 January on special invitation of Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo, Chairman, Military Committee of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to participate in the meeting of Chiefs of Defense.

The Military Committee is the highest forum of NATO that meets regularly to discuss various strategic issues concerning NATO.

The COAS will present Pakistan’s perspective on the security situation in the region and would also emphasize on the need for a comprehensive approach to deal with the complex security situation. The way forward on new US Strategy in Afghanistan will also come under discussion.
The COAS will also hold separate meetings with M. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of NATO, Admiral Michael G. Mullen, US Chairman Joint Staff and Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo, Chairman, Military Committee of NATO to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Earlier the COAS was seen off by Lieutenant General Muhammad Mustafa Khan, Chief of General Staff and Lieutenant General Tahir Mahmood, Commander 10 Corps.
