Two soldiers killed in Khyber ambush

PESHAWAR: Suspected militants ambushed a security convoy in the Khyber tribal region, killing two soldiers and wounding eight, a government official said.

Iqal Khan said the attackers shot at the troops in the tribal region’s Akakhel area, which has witnessed Taliban activity in recent years.

It was not immediately clear if there were any militant casualties in Saturday’s incident.

The Pakistani army has carried out targeted operations against militant groups in Khyber, but the insurgents often regroup. On Friday, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque in Jamrud area of the tribal region, killing 51 worshippers.
