Anjum Aqeel sent to one-day police remand

SLAMABAD: PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel, who surrendered to police on Saturday 24 hours after his escape, was brought to a local court amid tight security on Sunday.

The PML-N lawmaker is facing corruption charges in National Police Foundation (NPF) land scam case.

On Friday, he broke the bar with the help of his supporters and fled the scene. PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif expressed displeasure about the incident and formed a committee to investigate his escape from the jail.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik also urged the run-away MP to surrender to police.

He, however, surrendered before police with 24 hours.

Aqeel’s counsel pled for physical examination of Anjum Aqeel, which the court granted.

He would be taken to PIMS Hospital for medical examination.
