Blast in Hangu town kills at least 19

HANGU: As many as 19 people were reported killed and dozens other injured as a blast hit a busy market area of Hangu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The blast took place on a road near the Hangu DCO office. The powerful blast also damaged score of shops and buildings as the area is a market place where people were busy in business activates when explosion occurred.

Officials said it was a suicide blast in which more than 450 Kg explosive was used. At least 19 people were killed and many others injured, initial reports said.

Police and ranges cordoned off the site while rescue teams and areas people initiated rescue operation. The injured were shifted to the hospitals of Kohat and Hangu where emergency was declared.

Officials said the death toll may increase since the blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide, breaking windowpanes of nearby shops and buildings.

Hangu is situated in the south of Peshawar. It is the chief city of the district of Hangu, famous for its greenery.
