MQM, PML-Q likely to join federal cabinet

ISLAMABAD: After Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s refusal to join the federal cabinet, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement is reported to have agreed to assume ministries in the cabinet.

MQM spokesman, however, denied any such report.

The government is considering to nominate MQM leader Farooq Sattar as Federal Minister for Housing and Works, sources said.

They said Senator Babar Ghouri and Hyder Abbas Rizvi are top contenders for another ministerial slot for MQM, adding that one of them will be picked up as federal minister.

Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) was also reported to have agreed to join the cabinet after consultations with party members.

"Chaudhry brothers are waiting for call from the Presidency," sources said, adding they are likely to get six to eight ministries.

They said PML-Q leaders Amir Maqam, Faisal Sahel Hayat, Sheikh Waqas Akram, chairman Public Accounts Committee, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, PPP leaders Qamar Zaman Kaira, Faisal Raza Abdi and Sardar Ali could possibly be inducted in the federal government body.

However, it was learnt that, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has refused to appoint PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi as his deputy.
