8 militants killed in rival groups clashes in Tirah

TIRAH, April 08 : At least eight militants were killed and several others sustained injuries in fierce clashes between three rival insurgent groups in the volatile Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency on Friday.

Official sources said that three rival defunct insurgent groups, Lashkar-e-Islami, Ansar-ul-Islam and Zakha Khel traded heavy artillery fire and targeted each others installations with light automatic machine guns, killing eight militants from three groups and inflicting injuries to several
others.

The injured were shifted to local hospitals for treatment. Sources said that clashes between the rival groups were getting intense with each passing day for control of territory and the Triah Valley had been virtually changed into the rival groups' battle field in which at least 15 people had been killed and over 20 sustained injuries in the last six days.

"Clash between the armed insurgent groups started after killing of Maulana Hashim of Dattakhel tribe by the Lashkar-e-Islami groups," official sources said.

Local sources said that banned insurgent groups were trading fire with heavy weapons openly while the political agents and security forces were not interfering in the matter. The clashes have brought normal activities of life of the locals in the area almost to a halt as people are scare of
venturing out of their homes.
