Zardari, Gul condemn desecration of Holy Quran

ISLAMABAD, March 25 : President Asif Ali Zardari and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul have condemned the incident of desecration of the Holy Quran by a fanatic US pastor Terry Johns.

President Zardari telephoned Abdullah Gul on Friday to discuss issues of bilateral interest.

During the telephonic discussion, both the leaders said the United Nations and the US should take notice of the incident of desecration of the Holy Quran as the incident has hurt the sentiments of Muslim world. They said such incidents will promote extremism in US and Europe. They said no one should be allowed to hurt the sentiments of Muslims in the name of personal or religious liberty. Both the leaders urged the need for unity among the Muslims to thwart the nefarious designs of the anti-Muslim forces.

During the discussion, President Zardari and Abdullah Gul also discussed the latest situation in Liyba, Bahrain and Yemen and Afghanistan. They also discussed the joint Pakistan-Afghanistan-Turkey military exercises.
