Stern action to be taken against target killers in Karachi: Rehman Malik

KARACHI, March 28 : Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the government has decided to take stern action against target killers to restore peace in Karachi.

Talking to media persons here Monday, he said that intelligence agencies would be given task to watch and hunt target killers hiding anywhere in the province.

He said that after receiving information from intelligence agencies, law enforcement agencies would take strict action against target killers and criminals for maintaining law and order in Karachi.

Malik hold separate meetings with Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. He discussed targeted killing incidents and the relationship between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) with the governor and chief minister.

The minister said that ban was imposed on the People's Amn Committee and those who are involved in the killings would be punished. He said he sent a letter to Interpol to take action against fanatic pastor Terry Johns who desecrated the Holy Quran in Florida, US, adding that in the letter he urged that the pastor be declared a terrorist.

To a question about Raymond Davis, who killed to innocent Pakistanis in Lahore on January 27, Rehman Malik said that this chapter is closed now.

About semi-final cricket match to be played between Pakistan and India in Mohali tomorrow (Wednesday), he said that he warned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that match-fixing would not be tolerated and necessary steps for stopping match-fixing had been taken.

He said that intelligence agencies would watch all activities of the players. He hoped that cricket team would not disappoint the nation. He advised the team that they would dedicate winning of semi-final match to Pakistan.

He said that he talked Indian Home Minister Chidambaram who has assured foolproof security measures for Pakistani team during semi-final World Cup cricket match.

To another question, the minister said that Pakistan has always extended its hand of friendship towards India, hence Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will go to watch semi-final of the World Cup in India.
