Munter urges Salman Bashir for Davis release, Resolution moved in US House for freeze of assistance till Raymond Davis release

ISLAMABAD, March 10 : US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on Thursday met with Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir at the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

The two discussed the issue of US national Raymond Davis and the overall status of the US-Pakistan ties.

Sources said Munter reiterated the United States' demand for the release Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor who shot dead two Pakistani citizens on January 27.

Munter said the United States was hopeful that Davis would soon be released, sources said. Salman, Bashir however said the issue was in the courts which would decide Davis' future.

The meeting came soon after a resolution was moved in the US House of Representatives urging Pakistan to release Davis or brace itself for a freeze on all monetary assistance.

"The House of Representatives calls on the government of Pakistan to release Raymond Davis.until such time, all US monetary assistance to Pakistan should be frozen," says the resolution, moved by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican.
